Some of us were made to move through the world with panache and charisma, making exuberant invitations to others; some can only be utterly ourselves through a kind of emergent shyness that carries its own slowly arriving revelation.

Join David Whyte and special guests Mícheál and Owen Ó Súilleabháin - musicians, poets and singers, for an exploration of self-compassion and the unique conversation each of us are made to hold with the world.

Self-compassion is not only a form of faith in the unique way each of us is made for the world, it is also a test of our friendship with the hidden, unknown part of ourselves; waiting, amidst the obscurity we call a self, to emerge and cast its light on the world. By following the path of self compassion, and of self discovery, we eventually dissolve the line between loving a self and loving another. In the clear light of seeing an essence of ourselves, we come to understand something of the essence of others.

There is nothing more beautiful in the world than something entirely and utterly itself; and that might be as true of a human being as it is of a mountain or a waterfall. Some of us were made to move through the world with panache and charisma, making exuberant invitations to others; some can only be utterly ourselves through a kind of emergent shyness that carries its own slowly arriving revelation, tiptoeing into people’s lives and whispering our invitations in their private ears. Many of us come to know both spheres through frequent cycles of hiding and emergence in the seasonality of a life. But however we are made, or are made to become, each of us has to learn a particular kind of shining faith in the very particular conversation we make, simply by living and breathing.

Now flying in from Ireland and joining live at the event, special guests and singers Owen & Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin. Owen & Mícheál are brothers from one of Ireland’s most esteemed musical and artistic families. Singers, storytellers, poets, their vocal harmony and stories of life experience, mixed with a wild sense of humor, make you feel at ease, in awe, and entirely entertained. They draw from a huge repertoire spanning thousands of years, embodying Ireland in song: Ireland’s oldest tradition, Celtic sean nós; Medieval Gregorian Chant from the Monastic period; Irish folk songs in English and Gaelic; original inspirational pop-songs, and even human beatbox and Irish rap!
